Welcome to Friends of Jimmy Mac
We are very sorry to report that Jim MacLaren died the morning of August 31 after a lengthy illness.
Words can’t describe all the things Jim achieved and all the people he touched.
Services are scheduled for Sept. 18 at noon at the Lancaster Convention Center (1.888.850.6146 or www.lancasterconventionhotel.com). Please RSVP to celebration@jimmaclaren.com.
The family has requested that those wishing to make a donation in Jim's honor should consider the Challenged Athlete Foundation. (The Supplemental Needs Trust will no longer take donations.) From Jim's second accident, the Challenged Athlete Foundation was formed, and it has sinced helped countless challenged athletes remain in the game of life. "CAF is Jimmy's legacy," says Bob Babbitt, founding member and Board Vice President of CAF. "I'm proud to say that, through the athletes that we help every day, his impact will live on forever." Visit the CAF memorial page for Jim.
We would like to express our condolences to Jim’s family:
- his mother Hilary Wing Richards;
- his sister and caretaker Jennifer Hippensteel; Jennifer’s husband Bruce Hippensteel; their three daughters Sage, Kiowa, and Maya; and their son Noah;
- his brother Neil MacLaren; Neil’s wife Lenora; and their two sons Brendan and Dylan; and
- his brother John MacLaren; and John’s son Mac MacLaren.
Other important people in Jim’s life were his father Jim Snow, his adopted father Robert MacLaren, and his stepfather Clint Richards.
Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
With great sadness,

Welcome to the Friends of Jimmy Mac website!
FOJM was formed to help Jim MacLaren (Yale 1985), a record-setting triathlete and motivational speaker.
Jim’s constant display of grit, discipline and perseverance has been an inspiration to us all. Despite terrible injuries and the loss of his lower leg Jim turned himself into a world-class triathlete and set scores of records in the world’s most challenging races, including the New York City Marathon and the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii, where he routinely finished ahead of 80 percent of the able-bodied athletes. Jim is also a noted speaker and an ESPN ESPY award winner (for more information on Jim’s career please see his web site).
Over the years, however, the cumulative weight of Jim’s injuries has taken a toll on him and his health has declined. At the same time, many of Jim’s friends have fallen out of contact with him.
The goals of the Friends of Jimmy Mac are simple:
1) Help Jim’s friends re-engage with Jim in order to improve his outlook and well-being. We want to gather a circle of friends who want to stay informed of Jim’s progress; and communicate with Jim through emails, pictures and blog postings, to keep him connected to the rest of the world. This network of “friends” will collectively assist Jim in his amazing journey going forward.
2) Raise funds for the Friends of Jimmy Mac Supplemental Needs Trust, in order to help supplement Jim's immediate and long-term needs that are not covered by his limited, but important, government funding. For example, his physical therapy has been cut off and needs to be restarted, and the FOJM would like to provide and maintain a medical alert program for Jim.
Right now the Friends of Jimmy Mac consists of a handful of Jim’s college friends, mostly football and lacrosse teammates. But we need more members.
